Drinks Please
{ April 24th, 2008 }
I think its time to pick a place so we can get our drink on ASAP! I think our startup problems are pilling on so we need to get a drinking group together.
http://www.unthirsty.com/ is a nice tool to find bars around the area.
Please vote on the place through comments, or suggest one:)
So far
- Henry’s Tavern [ http://henrystavern.com/ ]
- BridgePort Brewing Company [http://www.bridgeportbrew.com/index.php]
- Amnesia
- RonTom’s- Vendettav
- Rock Bottom
- Mcmenamins downtown (market st)
- Bailey’s Tap Room on Broadway downtown
- Green Dragon Brewpub on SE 9th
Lets get this going!

A simple concept: startup culture in cities around the world gathers around a bar to have a pint and discuss what they are working on, what they need help with and what they can do for each other.

Count me in. I don’t care where we meet. But it needs to be: not too loud, and have plenty of open space. Someone needs to just choose the place since I don’t know how we’re going to easily vote on one here without thrashing. Once we all get there, we can discuss a better (permanent?) place(s). At risk of sounding pretentious, I will just strongly suggest we meet at Rock Bottom. Unless someone has a strong objection, let’s go with that. The wide open upstairs (and pool tables) make it a good spot to get comfortable.
Shall we say next Thursday (May 1)? That’s “first thursday” but that shouldn’t overcrowd the place, right? I
think we want to stay away from the weekend since it would probably be too busy to find enough open space.
I’d like to encourage a spirit of openness. I want to share my ideas with everyone, but I want to make sure it’s a safe place to do so.
Does someone want to put together any sort of agenda? I would have it very casual, but look something like: 1) set the tone (openness, safety, etc); 2) introductions (favorite technology, why you’re here); 3) play pool and chat maybe in smaller groups.
Contact your entrepreneurial friends so we can get as many people there as possible — I’m not sure how many Portlanders are aware of this site. Let’s show PG that Portland is a viable home for startups.

Thank you Micah! Seems like you and others are pretty excited. I am going to prepare and agenda tomorrow all the details should be taken care of. Event should be up tomorrow.

How about the Thursday after that, like May 8th? Being as May 1st is First Thursday, people may already have other plans. At least I do.

Turns out that Thursdays are actually not so good for me. I can make them if necessary, but would prefer Mon, Tue, or Wed. We should also decide on time. It would be nice to shoot for happy hours — I’m pretty flexible. But most important is finding a time when the most people can attend. If that’s 8-10p, then I’m willing to pay a couple extra bucks for my beers.

Hi Akshay — thanks for driving this. Is that agenda/plan/date up yet? Where will we find it?
